Repentance
Repentance is one of the first steps in responding to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is more than feeling sorry for sin. Repentance is a sincere turning of the heart, mind, and life toward God.
At the Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc., we believe that salvation begins with hearing the Word of God, believing the Gospel, and responding with a repentant heart. Through repentance, we acknowledge our true need for God, turn away from sin, and surrender ourselves to the will of Jesus Christ.
We also believe repentance must take place before water baptism. Baptism is not simply an outward religious act; it should follow a heart that has turned toward God. When a person repents, they come to baptism with faith, sincerity, and a desire to obey the Word of God. Repentance prepares the heart for baptism in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.
Repentance is not about being perfect before coming to God. It is about being honest before Him. Jesus came to save, deliver, restore, and transform. No matter where you have been, what you have done, or how far you may feel from God, repentance opens the door for a changed life through Jesus Christ.
The Bible teaches that God is merciful and ready to forgive. He desires that all would come to repentance and receive the salvation made available through Jesus Christ.
