Receiving the Holy Ghost
Receiving the Holy Ghost is a vital part of the New Testament salvation experience and God’s promise to believers. The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of God dwelling within us, giving us power to live holy, walk in truth, and serve according to God’s purpose.
At the Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc., we believe every believer can receive the Holy Ghost. On the Day of Pentecost, they were filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Peter later declared that this promise is “unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off.”
The Holy Ghost not only empowers us, but also transforms us. A Spirit-filled believer should seek to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit in daily life, allowing love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance to be seen in their character and conduct. Jesus taught that a tree is known by its fruit, and our lives should reflect the Spirit of Christ working within us.
Believers should also prayerfully seek to understand their spiritual gifts and use them to serve the church, strengthen the body of Christ, and help bring souls to Jesus. Spiritual gifts are not for pride or personal attention, but for service, edification, and the work of ministry.
