Discipleship
Discipleship is the lifelong process of learning to follow Jesus Christ, obey His Word, and become more like Him in our daily lives. It is more than attending church or knowing Scripture. True discipleship is shown through obedience, consistency, humility, holiness, and a sincere desire to grow in the things of God.
At the Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc., we believe every believer should continue growing after repentance, baptism, and receiving the Holy Ghost. Discipleship helps us become rooted in sound doctrine, strengthened through prayer, faithful in worship, and prepared to serve others.
Jesus called His followers to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Him. This means our lives should be shaped by His teachings, not simply our own desires, opinions, or traditions. As disciples, we must be willing to be taught, corrected, developed, and led by the Word of God.
Discipleship also happens through fellowship and accountability within the body of Christ. We grow by hearing the Word, studying Scripture, asking questions, learning from spiritual leadership, serving faithfully, and walking with other believers who desire to please God.
