Baptism
Before baptism, there must first be repentance. Baptism is not simply a religious tradition, public ceremony, or outward act. It is a step of obedience that believers should follow a sincere turning of the heart toward God.
At the Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc., we believe repentance prepares the heart for baptism. When a person repents, they acknowledge their need for God, turn away from sin, and come to baptism with faith, sincerity, and a desire to obey the Word of God.
We believe baptism should be done by full immersion in water in the name of the Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. This is the pattern preached and practiced by the apostles in the book of Acts.
Baptism represents a new beginning and a public identification with Jesus Christ. Through baptism, the believer takes an important step in faith, connecting with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and continuing forward in a life of holiness, obedience, and devotion to God.
