Pastor and Sister David S. Johnson |
|
Elder David S. Johnson, Sr. was born on October 18, 1953 in Columbia South
Carolina to Deacon Richard S. and Helen B. Johnson. He was baptized
in the name of Jesus Christ on January 26, 1965 at the age of eleven and
received the gift of the Holy Ghost on February 1, 1965.
He graduated from C.A. Johnson High School in Columbia, SC in 1971 as Valedictorian of his class. In 1975, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina. Elder Johnson attended the Progressive Church of Our Lord Christ in Columbia, SC all of his life. There he was a choir member, a Sunday School teacher, president of the Youth Department, and as Vice-President of the National Youth Department. At the age of 21, he was called into the ministry. He received his minister's license in August, 1975. From 1974 - 1976, he did evangelistic work throughout the Progressive Church organization. Although Minister Johnson had been involved in evangelistic work in Columbus, Georgia, on November 2, 1976, Bishop Joel G. Washington appointed him as pastor of the Progressive Church Of Our Lord Jesus Christ of Hopkins, SC, which came as a surprise to him. Minister Johnson accepted his assignment and came to Hopkins and the Lord has confirmed that this was His will. The Lord has blessed the Hopkins assembly as well as his natural family. During the 40th Annual Holy Convocation of 1984, Minister Johnson was ordained as an Elder. Elder Johnson and his wife Shanda have four children. The first child, Cana Elizabeth, was born after fourteen years of marriage. In addition to Cana, they have been blessed with two sons: David Jr., and Nathan, and another daughter, Gabrielle. Elder Johnson has expanded his ministry to include the "Moment of Truth Radio Broadcast" which airs every Saturday morning on WTGH (620AM) at 11:00 AM in Columbia, SC. Outreach ministries have also been started by Elder Johnson in Cross, SC; Hinesville, GA; N. Myrtle Beach, SC; Sumter, SC; Mt. Vernon, NY; as well as Prison Ministries. Elder Johnson has proven himself to be a man who has dedicate his life to the service of God. To God be the glory for the things He has done. |
