The National Education Department will sponsor a Continuing Education
Class on Saturday, February 20th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the
Progressive Church in Columbia, SC. This training session is for members
of the Progressive Churches in North Carolina and South Carolina. All
officers and teachers of the Brotherhood, Women, Youth, and Sunday
Department along with all elders, ministers, and deacons are encouraged
to attend this informative training session. Refreshments will be
served. Two very important topics will be covered during the class on
February 20th:
Session One: “Effective Teaching Strategies”
Instructor: Brother Derrick James, Ed.D
This session will instruct the participants on ways to capture their
audience’s attention and keep it for the duration of the lesson. Come
learn how you can make teaching more effective.
Session Two: “The Psychology of Individual Differences”
Instructor: Elder Thomas J. Smith
This session will emphasize the importance of leaders understanding the
individual differences of the persons we lead and serve so that we
better lead and serve them. While it is important to "understand
people" considering their developmental stages, their cultural
backgrounds, their life experiences, their generational categories, etc,
it is equally important to understand their individual differences and
the impact those differences have on their behavior. Understanding the
individual differences of the persons we lead will give us great insight
into how to most effectively lead them.
