Pastor and Sister Joseph D. Williams |
|
Bishop J. D. Williams was born in Richland County,
South Carolina to the late Bishop J. D. Williams,
Sr., founder of the Progressive Churches, and the late Sister Bessie
Friday Williams. He began his
ministry at the age of 16 at the Headquarters Church in Columbia, SC on a
Young People’s Service Night. In
1966, he was appointed as pastor of the
Headquarters Church in Columbia
after the death of Bishop Williams.
He was united in holy matrimony to then Sister Ella
Rose Milhouse on July 1, 1967. This
union was blessed with five children: Joseph
David III (LaKoskski), Rodney Jerome (Nakita), Anthony Gerald, Joy Denise
and Jaime Darrell Williams. He
is also the proud grandfather of six grandchildren, Ebouni, Joshua, Kayla,
Jayla, Faith and Jordan Rose.
During the 29th
Annual Holy Convocation of 1973, he was appointed as pastor of the
Progressive Church in Killian, SC where he is currently pastor.
He worked for
many years before retiring to pastor full time. Under his leadership, the
Lord
has blessed the church in Killian to grow to be one of the largest
churches in the organization. In 1995, Bishop Williams and the
saints of Killian were blessed to complete and dedicate a new sanctuary
that seats more than 800 persons.
On the professional
recording released by the Progressive Church National Choir in 1992,
entitled "The Power of Praise," Bishop Williams preached
the message, "If You Praise Him, He Will Deliver You."
Bishop
Williams enjoys reading, traveling and teaching.
He has a God given ability to teach others the Word of God. For many
years, he served as advisor to the
National Education Department. He also served as a District Elder,
Chairman of the Board of Presbytery, and as Chairman of the Advisory
Council of the Progressive Churches. During the 63rd Annual Holy
Convocation of the Progressive Churches, he was appointed a Bishop-Elect
and also appointed to serve on the Board of Bishops of the Progressive
Churches. Most of all, his quest is to
deliver the whole counsel of God to his flock. |
